"You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one"
- Unknown
Don't hold back. Someone's said that no matter where we are in life , we will always be a work in progress. However, when you sit and think about it, do you really think of yourself as of a progressing one?
There is no doubt that progression is a serious commitment. It will not happen if you’re not ready to let go. To be more specific, if you're not really ready to leave the past behind and let life progress. When you realise it's high time to quit suffering by worrying about how life will take its course.
How? Find ways to let go of things that bring you down so you can start your great journey to becoming a better version of yourself.
1. Letting go of past struggles
Struggles happen not just to make us suffer. It may sound ridiculous but they are aimed to help us learn our lessons and make us grow as stronger persons. Whenever you feel like giving up, ask yourself do you want to stagnate or make progress? Fight, even if you're aching at that particular moment.
We are more likely to learn from difficult situations in our lives. Moreover, the only way to learn from them is being ready to face failures, wrong turns and embarrassing experiences. Only then you are prepared for the things life can offer you, not when you chicken out. Instead of interpreting every difficult situation you encounter as an obstacle, try searching for reasons why it is happening and what it may teach you.
Struggles, like everything else, aren’t constant. You will conquer them if you're motivated enough. You will turn them into weapons that will make you stronger and wiser in dealing with what your life will bring you.
2. Letting go of your past wounds
Forgive people who have hurt you and let go of the pain they have caused.
The act of forgiveness is not something you give only to the person you’re forgiving. More importantly, you give it to yourself, which makes you learn to see things from a new perspective.
Forgiveness can be seen as emptying an already filled cup to re-fill it with something better. It can heal even the deepest wounds. By leaving your pain away, you're ready to face all tomorrows believing that good things will happen.
3. Letting go of your past mistakes
If you are ready to forgive others, you should realise that sometimes we need to forgive ourselves as well. The only way you’ll be able to start again is if you’re able to forget your past failures and shortcomings that have happened so far. We are flawed and make mistakes so forgive and move on.
What you need is to have faith that you can change. That since today, things WILL be better and you will try not to fall again. If you don’t learn how to forgive yourself, you will never believe in any of the things you are able to do.
4. Letting go of your past achievements
What may stop you from striving to be a better person and developing yourself are your achievements.
Even though they make you the person you are, your accomplishments are just a part of you, not the total of who you are. Knowing how to handle success is a sign of maturity because it means you don’t let the things you do define you. It means you do them not for the glory, but for the experience.
Be thankful for anything you have and will achieve but don’t let it occupy your mind. Instead of walking with a vain mind, go through your life with a grateful heart.
5. Choosing your future over your past
Everything comes with a price - you must end one thing before you can get another. The true question is: How much do you want to move forward? There always is a choice between sinking in the past and focusing on what’s ahead of you. You are the only decisive entity here. Think of all the things you’ve gone through and decide what you want in your life.
Unless you do this, how can you pursue the right beginnings? The truth about past is that there is no longer anything that can be changed about it. On the contrary, the future is the state where chances blossom.
Please remember that for most of life, we are given only one shot.
Letting go of the past comprises of leaving your past experiences behind and taking the lessons you’ve learned and the person you’ve become with you on the journey called the "future".
